Strategic Location

The existing port at Redi is located along the Konkan Coast in Vengurla Taluka of Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra (15045’ N latitude and 73039’ E longitude). The proposed site lies 85 km north of Goa and 150 km south of Ratnagiri with relative proximity to major cargo generating centers in Kolhapur, Sangli, and North Karnataka and the iron ore mines at Sindhudurg, North Goa and Bellary Hospet. The site has got the strategic leverage of being located immediately south of Rainy Point amidst the shelter formed by rocky projections.

Connectivity

It is well-connected by road and rail and with the upcoming international airport at Pernem, Goa and the newly launched Greenfield domestic airport in Sindhudurg. The new airport at Chipi has given a tremendous boost to the project and aims to enhance its viability. A new railway line connecting Sawantwadi Station to the Redi Port is in the advanced stage. Further, a four-lane coastal road connecting Redi Port to the State Highway is in the developmental stage.
